Sharing the highlights from his visit to Denmark on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that he held “productive talks” with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. In a statement post their talks, Frederiksen said she “hoped” that “India will influence Russia” to end the war in Ukraine. Modi, meanwhile, called for an immediate ceasefire and diplomacy and dialogue.

India and the Nordic countries on Wednesday discussed the conflict in Ukraine and its broader regional and global implications as they agreed to remain closely engaged on the issue. The issue figured prominently at the second India-Nordic summit attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his counterparts from Finland, Iceland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
A joint statement said the prime ministers expressed their serious concern about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
"They unequivocally condemned civilian deaths in Ukraine. They reiterated the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities," it said. It said the prime ministers emphasised that the contemporary global order has been built on the UN Charter, international law and respect for sovereignty and the territorial integrity of states.
"The Nordic prime ministers reiterated their strong condemnation of the unlawful and unprovoked aggression against Ukraine by Russian forces," the statement said. It said India and the Nordic countries affirmed their support for a rules based international order and for multilateral institutions and their commitment to work towards making them more inclusive, transparent, and accountable with the aim of addressing global challenges more effectively. 5. PM gifted a wall hanging with Kutch embroidery to Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen. Kutch Embroidery is a handicraft & textile signature art tradition of tribal community of Kutch, Gujarat.
6. PM Modi gifted a Pashmina stole in a Papier Mache box from Jammu and Kashmir to Prime Minister of Sweden, Magdalena Andersson. Kashmiri Pashmina Stoles have been treasured for their rare material, exquisite craftsmanship & reminiscent designs since time immemorial.

Iceland Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir in a statement on Wednesday said she discussed about Yoga with PM Narendra Modi. She said, 'We talked about Yoga, it's quite popular in Iceland. A lot of people practice it regularly,' Jakobsdóttir said.
Talking about the discussions held between India and Iceland, Jakobsdóttir said, 'India and Iceland have many opportunities on issues of climate cooperation and geothermal energy along with deepening cooperation in carbon binding and fisheries sector. We talked about culture and gender equality as well.'

In their first meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Swedish PM Magdalena Andersson held bilateral talks on the sidelines of the India-Nordic summit. "In today’s meeting, the two leaders reviewed the progress made in our bilateral partnership. They also expressed satisfaction at the progress made by the Lead IT initiative. This was a India-Sweden joint global initiative to set up a Leadership Group on Industry Transition (LeadIT) in September 2019 at the UN Climate Action Summit to help guide the world’s heaviest greenhouse gas (GHG) emitting industries towards the low-carbon economy. Its membership has now grown to 35 with 16 countries and 19 companies," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a press release.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi and his Norwegian counterpart marked their first meeting since the assumption of office by PM Jonas Gahr Støre in October 2021. "Both Prime Ministers reviewed the ongoing activities in bilateral relations and discussed future areas of cooperation," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a press release. Discussions also took place on regional and global developments. As members of UN Security Council, India and Norway have been engaging with each other in the UN on global issues of mutual interest, the release said. "Prime Minister highlighted that Norway's skills and India's scope provided natural complementarities. Both leaders discussed the potential for deepening engagement in areas like Blue Economy, renewable energy, green hydrogen, solar and wind projects, green shipping, fisheries, water management, rainwater harvesting, space cooperation, long term Infrastructure investment, health and culture," the release added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Berlin for the sixth Indo-German Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC) is significant for its timing and substantial results. Chancellor Olaf Scholz, despite the shock of the Ukraine crisis, recently visited Japan and then hosted PM Modi. In public perception, the visit was about adjusting to the Ukraine crisis and whether Germany would try to persuade India to follow its line. The reality differed as both got down to serious business beyond Ukraine. Germany is a reluctant player in the anti-Russian movement. It criticises Russia for invading Ukraine, which set back Germany’s — and Europe’s — search for strategic autonomy. This broadened their outlook towards neglected partners such as India. The strategic convergence between India and France is not skin-deep. It is based on the fundamental conviction of both countries in a multipolar world and in the concept of strategic autonomy. More importantly, France has stood by India through thick and thin, beginning with 1998 when India conducted nuclear tests and the entire world was ranged against us. Since then, India and France have deepened their strategic partnership to such an extent that there is really no outstanding problem or irritant in the relationship today. The visit by Modi to France on May 4 will not just be to congratulate Macron on his stunning re-election but also to survey the international strategic landscape and take stock of bilateral ties. The war in Ukraine will certainly figure in the discussions. France, of all countries, should be able to understand where India is coming from on this issue. Modi has met Putin umpteen number of times and Macron has spoken to Putin for several hours on the phone. Indeed, if there are two major leaders in the world today who are capable of picking up the phone and talking to Putin, it is Macron and Modi. He attended the event with Denmark PM, Mette Frederiksen. "Prime Minister emphasized the complemetary skillsets of the two economies and invited Danish companies to take advantage of India’s enormous opportunities in areas like green technologies, cold chains, waste to wealth, shipping and ports, among others. He highlighted the business friendly approach of India and exhorted business communities of both sides to explore collaboration opportunities," the PMO said in a statement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address on Tuesday to the Indian community at Bella Centre in Copenhagen said that India has offered foodgrains to save the world from hunger. He also highlighted that India sent medicines to several countries during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Discussing India’s contribution to the world during the pandemic, the Prime Minister said, “India has helped the world during the difficult time and sent medicines to many countries so that we do not remain behind in humanitarian work during the crisis.”
He said India has worked with an aim to help the world during the crisis. “Bharat jab foodgrains ke mamle main aatmanirbhar hua hai to duniya ko bhukhmari se bachane ke liye khule dil se offer kar raha hai. (When, India has become self-reliant in foodgrains, it has offered [foodgrains] with an open mind to save the world from hunger),” he said.
